February 2015 Cedar Key Events Calendar

  • Intermediate Yoga Classes are 8 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays at the City Library.
  • Gentle Yoga Classes are 3:30pm on Mondays & Wednesdays at the City Library.

  • Scrabble at the Cedar Key Library on Wednesday’s at 1pm

FEBRUARY

– Longleaf Pine February 4th at10:30am at the Cedar Key Library – 2015 Lecture Series – Join us for a presentation by the Cedar Key Garden Club on the Longleaf Pine.

– Atlantic Basin, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Hurricanes February 5th at 5:00pm at the Cedar Key Library – 2015 Lecture Series – Join us as we hear from Allan Pither, of Florida`s Nature Coast Conservancy, and his talk entitled “Atlantic Basin, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Hurricanes – Whence they come and whither they go”. 

– Cottonmouths/Birds on Seahorse Key – February 7th at 10:30am – 2015 Lecture Series – Join us for an exciting and surprising talk from Herpetologist, Dr. Coleman Sheehy, III on the Amazing Mutuality between the Cottonmouth Snakes and the Nesting Birds on Seahorse Key. Located at the Cedar Key Library.

  • Cedar Key Arts Center (Cedar Keyhole)Presents: Portraits Artists from Jacksonville to Cedar Key February 7th through February 25th. Opening Day is February 7th from 5 – 7pm upstairs at the Cedar Key Arts Center. Curated by Henry Gernhardt. This show also features the art work of local 5th grade students. In addition, local jewelers will offer a selection of their jewelry for sale from 10am until 7pm as a Trunk show.

  • Cedar Key Arts Center (Cedar Keyhole)  February 10th, Marie Lewis will have a jewelry making workshop for participants to make their own jewelry piece. Information at the Cedar Key Arts Center (Cedar Keyhole)

  • Annual Flower Sale 10am – 2pm February 13th & 14th: Come take advantage of the wonderful selection of flowers to buy at this annual event to help support Friends of the Library. Sold at the Cedar Key Library

– Lighthouse on Cedar Key open to the public on February 14th from 9:00 am -3:00 pm: This is one of several limited openings to the public of Seahorse Key, home of the Cedar Key Lighthouse. Your own boat or plenty of transportation available at the Cedar Key City Docks

  • Cedar Key Historical Society & Cedar Key Public Library Present: Florida’s Fleet A Boatbuilding and Fishing Legacy from the First Coast (February 19th, Thursday 10am at the CK Library)  Presented by Brandon Burke, a maritime archaeologist of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program.

  • Annual Lion’s Club Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance Saturday, February 14th at the Cedar Key Community Center (809 6th Street) Starts at 6pm – Catered by The Island Room Restaurant with music by Cruise Control and a Silent Auction – Social and Silent Auction at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. Tickets are $25 per person and will be available soon at the Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce.

  • 21st Annual Update on Archaeology – February 21st at Time TBA – 2015 Lecture Series – Join us as we welcome back Ken Sassaman for his Annual Update on Archaeology in the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges. At the Cedar Key Library.

– Florida Rivers, Springs, and Other Water Sources – February 26th at 5pm at the Cedar Key Library – 2015 Lecture Series – Join us as we enjoy a talk from Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson, President of OurSantaFeRiver.org on emergent issues facing Florida`s Rivers, Springs, and Other Water Sources

  • Cedar Key Arts Center (Cedar Keyhole) will feature a week long plein air paint out, with an auction on Friday, February 27th. Preview of paintings begins at 5pm with auction at 6:30pm. Other items will be for salke. Additional paintings which artists have created during this time will be for sale by the artist.

  • Annual Spaghetti Dinner Presented by the Cedar Key Women’s Club (February 21st, Saturday 5-7pm at the Cedar Key Community Center (809 6th Street)  Tickets are $10  Dine In or Take Out

MARCH

  • Fashion Show March 18th at the Cedar Key Community Center (809 6th Street). Vendors line the walls of the Community Center and shopping begins at 10:30am. Luncheon is served at noon and is followed by the Fashion Show. Tickets will be available soon at the Chamber of Commerce.

  • Old Florida Celebration of the Arts (March 28 & 29) Look for the Chamber of Commerce Tent in the City Park on Both Days!

APRIL

  • Easter with Faraway Inn at City Park (April 4th)   Faraway Inn’s 4th Annual Easter Extravaganza with a Doggie Parade to the City Park, woof.

JULY

  • Cedar Key Clamfest Celebration (July 4th)  The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Small Town Festival in the Park this Year.

SEPTEMBER

  • Chamber of Commerce Annual Labor Day Auction (September 6th)  Event will be held at the Community Center this Year. (809 6th Street)

OCTOBER

  • Taste of Cedar Key (October 3rd)   This event returns for its 2nd year. Proceeds will benefit Cedar Key School.

  • 46 Annual Seafood Festival (October 17th & 18th)   Look for the Chamber of Commerce Tent in the City Park on Both Days!

NOVEMBER

  • River Rummage Yard Sale (November 14th)  This event returns for its 2nd year in the City Park.

  • Annual Tree Lighting (November 27th)   The Chamber is participating in this years event, in partnership with the Dennison Family.

DECEMBER

  • Christmas in the Park (December 12th)  This event returns for its 2nd year with a Community Dinner to be served with the Boat Parade & Santa Clam.
