“NOTES FROM FARAWAY INN”
A TNR FUNDRAISER
CEDAR KEY, FLORIDA
Faraway Inn, 847 Third Street
Author Teri Mathis’ book Notes from Faraway Inn is now for sale with 100% of the proceeds being donated to Faraway Inn’s feral cat Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program.
To raise funds for the TNR program, the author has generously donated 150 copies of Notes from Faraway Inn (printed by Vendale Publishing). Notes from Faraway Inn is a compilation of 14 years of funny, strange, touching and energizing room journal entries written by guests of Faraway Inn. The book is a great read and is available at the motel office for $12, or by phone or mail order for $15 including US shipping.
Faraway Inn owners Doreen and Oliver Bauer strongly believe in giving back to the community and want to make Cedar Key a nicer place to visit and to live. Seeing a need for feline population control on the island and strongly opposed to euthanizing healthy animals, the owners became early adopters of the TNR concept to reduce feline overpopulation. In October 2006 they started an all-volunteer feral cat neuter program, which to date has helped 945 Cedar Key cats!
Studies show that TNR improves the health of feral cats, improves their relationship with the people and other animals who live near them, and decreases the size of colonies over time. This type of program is now in place in hundreds of communities throughout the United States.
