A clarification has been made to the Marine Fisheries Hot Sheet under the Gulf Grouper section. Below is the updated text, clarifying the location of the federal water has been removed shoreward of the 20 fathom line only.
Action: Recreational season will not close Feb. 1
Information: A closure affecting several species of grouper in Gulf state waters (excluding Monroe County) has been removed and the season will not close as it has in previous years. The Feb. 1 through March 31 closure was removed at the Sept. 2013 Commission meeting. This closure would have affected black, red, yellowfin, scamp, yellowmouth, rock hind and red hind. Monroe County grouper are managed under Atlantic regulations. A similar Feb. 1 through March 31 closure in federal waters shoreward of the 20 fathom line (or about 120 feet) has also been eliminated. For more information on the federal water closure and a map of the 20 fathom line, visit MyFWC.com/Fishing and click on “Saltwater”, “Recreational Regulations” and “Groupers” or click on the federal news bulletin below.
