A lovely sweet quaint Old Florida ambience. Love the bay and use of free bikes and kayaks. Extremely friendly and dogs rule. Really great folks. Can’t wait to return. Wonderful town, this is well off the beaten path. Thanx
We spent five days in Cedar Key at the Faraway Inn and I highly recommend this place. This is the second ‘mom and pop’ hotel we’ve stayed in (first one was in Key Largo last year) and I am so much more comfortable in these type of places that I will avoid the big chain hotel in the future if I can. We had one of the motel rooms, but there was a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Plus a two-seat table in the room for meals. Being able to bring our own food helped keep our vacation costs down. Thanks so much!
When they say everything is within walking distance, they’re not kidding! Our car stayed parked most of the week. The hanging swings that face west are awesome for sunsets. Absolutely the best place on the island for the sunsets. We went out to see it every night. The courtyard was snug and inviting and we ate breakfast out there one morning with the hotel cat, Turtle. All the kitschy stuff make the courtyard a fun place to be. We borrowed the bikes are toured part of the island.
My only very small complaint was that there was no shampoo in the bathroom. Every hotel I’ve ever stayed at has had them, so I didn’t pack it. A quick walk to the convenience store a couple of streets over remedied that. All in all, we had a wonderful time and we’re glad we came.
Spent two nights here recently and as always we were most pleased. This is a very laid back facility circa 1950. It boast being a pet friendly lodge with the humans welcomed too. If you want a really relaxing place to stay this is for you. The staff treat you like family and couldn’t be nicer. This was our third trip to Faraway and it won’t be our last…Gracie, our Shih Tzu seems to know her way around the grounds but dares not kiss the cats without a face slap. If you like old fashioned and green practice this will never disappoint. Thanks to Shely for great service.
This was our second stay at Faraway Inn, the first being about 8 years ago. We scored the “big cottage” and could not have been happier. Scrupulously clean, inviting, like staying in a friend’s home. Reminds me of our family road trips when I was a kid, and motor courts were the choice of lodgings. These are old, historic buildings just like those, right down to the tile bathrooms. We were greeted with friendly smiles and a “whatever it takes” attitude. And, we got to bring our big lab with us! Where else can you take a big dog on vacation with you? They have kayaks, bikes, canoes and even golf carts, although you really can walk to the downtown area and the dock from here. It was a perfect stay for us.
I have never stayed in a more comfortable, cozy and friendly place. Definitely THE place to stay in Cedar keys. We stayed there for their annual Pirate Fest and they went out of their way to make our stay memorable and easy and very much welcome. Won’t be hard to find me next years event, I will be RIGHT here for the 3 days. 🙂 Pet friendly, too!
